Hats off to the Junior Sailors of Dale Yacht Club – Lowri Boorman 13 yrs, Jake Scott 14 yrs, and Andrew Scott 9 yrs, who competed at the Topper Winter Regatta at Weymouth on 27th and 28th February (National Series 2, NS2)

All three sailors were exposed to gruelling and brutal conditions, including

rough sea swells, wind gusts of 24 knots and wind chill of 2 C.  Lowri and Jake, who are in the Welsh National Squad, competed in the 5.3 Topper Class achieving an impressive set of results. There were 147 entries in total aged between 12 and 17, but Saturday saw 50 sailors retire from sheer exhaustion and cold. The safety boat crews were kept very busy throughout the event.

Jake’s results: 76th overall, 57th Junior, 54th Male

Andrew also displayed true grit in such challenging conditions, achieving the top U10 yr old and  receiving a prize for his impressive performance in the 4.2 Topper Class.

Meg Boorman 17 years old was a member of the GBR Topper Squad before making the transition to the Laser Radial. She will be coaching and teaching with the West Wales Watersports for a third season this summer as well as being employed by RYA Cymru for a few days.

Now a fully fledged Dinghy and Windsurfing Instructor she also manages to find time to train and compete as a member of the South and West Regional Windsusrfing Squad.
